    Creative releases NOMAD MuVo2
Creative Labs, Inc. announced on Sept 3 a new line of three ultra-compact, high-quality MP3 players called NOMAD MuVo2. The players, pronounced NOMAD MuVo Squared, were tailored by the worldwide leader in PC-based digital entertainment for a quickly-growing market of digital audio users.

All three MP3 players feature “high-capacity removable and rechargeable Li-Ion batteries, unparalleled audio quality, super fast USB 2.0 connectivity and simple drag and drop functionality,” according to a Creative press release.

The first player to be released, NOMAD MuVo2 1.5 GB, will be available this month for $229 and will be the only 1.5 GB player on the market with a removable battery. It can hold up to 50 hours of music, or 850 songs, and is recognized as a removable computer drive to allow users to drop any variety of file or playlist directly onto the player. Users can adjust equalize settings, scroll through the LCD and select their preferred play modes, then listen to music whose quality—98dB SNR—rivals that of hi-fi systems. The battery recharges via USB and can last up to ten hours a charge, and the player, which is dusk blue and silver, comes with earbuds and a carrying case with belt clip.

NOMAD MuVo2 X-Trainer, in yellow and charcoal, will also be available this month, for $269.99, is built more ruggedly than the 1.5 GB and has 512MB of flash memory to allow for 16 hours of skip-free music. According to Lisa O’Malley, senior brand manager for Creative Labs’ portable audio products, the X-Trainer is “the only flash-based player with USB 2.0 convenience.”

Another, silver-and-charcoal, version of the X-Trainer with 1GB capacity will be available in October for $499.99. Its flash memory enables the user to store up to 560 songs, or 16 hours of music. Both X-Trainer products weigh 3.1 ounces and come with sports armbands and belt clips.

All of the NOMAD Muvo2 products feature a headphone jack and are bundled with Creative’s MediaSoft software, which is not required to operate the players but which allows users to copy CDs, organize digital music collections and transfer music to the players.

    ZVUE: First Look

Carl Page, Chief Technology Officer Hand Held Entertainment, shows off a working prototype of the $99 ZVUE, a personal video player, that will be available nationwide in about 8 weeks. Listen to my exclusive audio interview (wmv, 5 minutes, 230K) using the Madplayer, a hand held music studio, as a digital voice recorder. (NOTE: There is a slight buzz to the audio file from increasing the volume in post production and compressing the file at 6.5Kbps)

    Hands On Impression
    ZVUE is Totally DroolCool.
The portable player will be a runaway hit this fall selling season.

I was the first member of the press to see and play with an actual working model.
The screen is a good size for watching videos and the sound is pure and clean.
